Alex, a New York native, joined the Navy to serve his country as a Special Operator after the attacks of September 11. His experience included managing, directing, and leading a diverse group of personnel in various high-stress situations. He has coordinated the administration and labor on complex construction projects on military bases around the globe. These projects have ranged in value from less than one million to over fifty million dollars.
Following 8 years of service, Alex founded ABBA Project Management. Alex is currently serving as Project Manager on the $1.5 billion redevelopment of the Central Embarcadero project, Seaport San Diego. Through ABBA, Alex has coached multi-billion dollar companies about how to develop innovative solutions and work as a team. He has also acted as the client representative on various real estate projects, including commercial and mixed use development and sensitive government projects.
Alex is a graduate of Middlebury College, with degrees in both American Studies and Economics. He enjoys playing golf, watching football, hiking, and traveling. He currently serves on the board of the Veteran’s Research Alliance, the SEAL Future Fund, and is a member of the Lincoln Club, NAIOP, and the San Diego Political Leadership Institute.
VICE PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS
Beverley earned her B.S. in business from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. She immigrated to the United States in 1983, where she earned her paralegal certification from the University of San Diego. For over thirty years, Beverley has worked in construction and real estate law. As such, she gained extensive experience in contract review, staff supervision, coordination of large projects and interfacing with clients. Beverley joined ABBA PM in 2016. In her free time, Beverley enjoys yoga, pilates and agility training her two Australian shepherds.
VICE PRESIDENT OF INNOVATION
Stuart Markey is a results focused leader adept at managing large complex projects. He is skillful in developing collaborative partnerships with governing boards, vendors, contractors and business owners. Stuart has represented owners before bond rating agencies (Moody’s and S+P), guided operations from program start up to $200 million dollars in annual construction volume, and created an Energy Tax Incentives Department at a fortune 200 company capturing over 30 million dollars in net deductions over a 6 year period.
While in the United States Navy, Stuart served as Commanding Officer for multi ship U.S. Navy operational units in Western Pacific, Persian Gulf, Red Sea and Northern Arabian Sea. He has led Military Organizations with over 2,500 service members. In 2004 Stuart retired from the United States Navy while holding the Rank of Captain.
Stuart holds a Master of Business Administration from Adelphi University in New York and a Master of Science from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. He earned his Associates of Science in Environmental Science at Holyoke Community College and his Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Massachusetts.
DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND PLANNING
Steve Ricci was a proud member of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department for 35 years, reaching the rank of Deputy Chief of Field Operations. He supervised and managed the day-to-day emergency operations and responses for all 50 fire stations and SDFD personnel in the City of San Diego. Steve’s other roles included SDFD Training Officer, Operations Section Chief for All Hazards Incident Management Team, and Battalion Chief.
Steve has been responsible for emergency planning and command and control for numerous large San Diego events, including Comic-Con, the MLB All-Star game, 4th of July celebrations, sporting events at SDCCU stadium, and many more. He has also served as incident commander for numerous grave emergency incidents in and around San Diego County, including the Rancho Bernardo wildfire in May 2014, a 1500-acre fire which was extinguished without any loss of life or structures.
Steve joined ABBA in 2018 as the Senior Fire Protection Supervisor and Fire Protection Building Code Consultant. Steve earned a degree in fire science from Miramar College, and a certificate in Fire Protection Administration from San Diego State University. Steve is a native San Diegan and is married with three children. In his free time, Steve enjoys golfing, fishing and the outdoors.
DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CONSULTING AND FINANCIAL ANALYSIS
Paul Gherini specializes in real estate acquisitions, financial analysis, and development. His project experience involves the underwriting, acquisition, and development of over $2 billion in real estate deals. He was a critical part of securing the Seaport redevelopment project, having overseen the financial analysis. Paul’s experience specializes in complex public-private partnership developments, having dealt with The Port of San Diego, San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), Amtrak, Veterans Affairs (VA), and The University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He has been a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) for eight years, and now serves on the University Challenge and Developing Leader Steering Committees. Paul graduated from UCSD and is now helping craft the University’s new Real Estate Development major. He is the top advisor to the student organization. He will support the California High Speed Rail team with the operations financial analysis and feasibility.
Jim Le Beau
SR. CONSTRUCTION MANAGER
After serving as President of Le Beau Contracting Inc. for 34 years, Jim Le Beau brings his solid reputation and leadership to the ABBA team. Le Beau Contracting was a full-service general contracting firm specializing in design-build medical facility improvement projects. Jim was recognized for his ability to work with owners through all phases of the construction process. From the conceptual phase through the architectural and engineering design process, to the acquisition of all necessary building permits and final completion Jim’s leadership and team-building skills earned Le Beau Contracting a solid reputation as a relationship-driven firm rooted in integrity and professional competence.
Jim’s extensive experience prepared him for his current role as a Senior Construction Manager for ABBA PM, where he is currently working for the San Diego Unified School District as Senior Construction Manager for the Correia Middle School Sports Complex Facility. The project is a $9M renovation of an existing seven-acre site, scheduled for completion at the end of April 2019. Jim will continue working on additional SDUSD projects as a Sr. Construction Management Consultant for ABBA PM.
Jim has been married 27 years to Michelle and they have two sons. Jim graduated from UCSD with a BA in History. He enjoys surfing, swimming, and spending time with his family. Jim also enjoys traveling to Tijuana and Tecate, Mexico to build houses for the homeless with Project Mercy.
ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER
Steve Hernandez is proud to be born and raised in San Diego. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and an emphasis in society’s impact on the environment. He has also earned an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management from San Diego Mesa College. Steve holds an OSHA 30 certification and is First Aid Certified. His education has provided him with the social and technical skills necessary to build positive relationships with customers and stakeholders in a professional manner.
Steve has worked on three major projects for the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority (SDCRAA): (1) the Terminal 1 Replacement Project pre-planning and development; (2) the San Diego Rental Car Center construction, and activation; (3) and, from inception to completion, the Federal Inspection Services at Terminal 2. He also participated in the development of the SDCRAA strict Construction Safety Program. As a result, from working on the SDCRAA's projects, Steve has gained valuable and wide-ranging experiences in Document Control, Administrative Support, Construction Safety, Office Engineer, and Project Coordinator procedures and responsibilities.
During his free time, Steve enjoys playing tennis, hiking local trails, and playing the ukulele.
